Steam has reached almost 30 million active users

Although Epic Games has an aggressive promotion policy, a rich portfolio of AAA games and the most attractive promotions in the industry, Steam has remained the dominant game distribution platform. Valve entered 2022 with 28 million active players on Steam, and almost a week ago it reached the threshold of 30 million players.

The reasons behind this spectacular increase? Mainly eSports titles such as DOTA 2 and CS: GO. In the last 24 hours alone, CS: GO has had 900,000 active players, and DOTA 2 has almost 800,000. And PUBG: Battlegrounds seems to be successful since it switched to the free to play model, in the last 24 hours managing to attract no less than 600,000 players. However, it should be noted that during the winter holidays and in the first weeks of January, Steam usually has the highest number of active players of the year, but even so, the numbers are much higher than in previous years.

Although Valve lost many important titles due to the exclusive agreements between Epic and the game developers, Steam did not disappear, it even continued to prosper and attract more and more customers. The company even plans to expand into the handheld gaming console industry with Steam Deck, but it remains to be seen what the public reception will be after its commercial debut in February.
