Star Trek Online go to free-to-play
Star Trek Online MMORPG developed by the team at Cryptic and published by Atari, will finally go free-to-play system. According to Stephen D’Angelo, executive producer of Star Trek Online, the game was designed from the start anyway for free-to-play model, but insisted on traditional publisher Atari monthly.
One of the reasons the paid edition of Star Trek Online was not successful was the difficulty of the game, considered far too low even by the manufacturers.
A player may reach up and unlock the most powerful item’s in just one day, which will now be addressed through free-to-play system. Thus, the items really powerful can be purchased only in exchange for a new resource called Dilithium.
On the other hand, the only currency in the game are made by so-called Cryptic Cryptic Points, in return for which players will be able to Dilithium.
Thus, those without much time invested in the game players can buy more patient Dilithium who toil in the game for this resource. Cryptic hopes thereby to create a balanced economic system, free of charge to support the game.
Star Trek Online will offer free-to-play scheme from 17 January 2012.
