Volkswagen Golf, overthrown by Renault: which are the best-selling cars in Europe

Volkswagen is the largest car manufacturer in the world, and Golf is an iconic brand of the group. But the start of the year came with a surprise from Renault, the parent company of Dacia.

The beginning of the year was difficult for all car manufacturers. After rising sales at the end of the year, the beginning of 2020 brought one of the worst periods of decline in recent years. There were declines in the major European markets, which set the tone.

There have been two bad months in terms of sales – January and February, and most likely March will be disastrous due to the coronavirus pandemic. Even so, the specialists from Jato Dynamics came with the monthly top. Here are the best-selling cars at European level in February.

Volkswagen Golf is the iconic model of the Germans and occupies the first position in sales on the continent almost throughout the year. Only, in February, the German model lost the first position in favor of Renault, more specifically in favor of the Clio.

In the second month of 2020, Renault sold 24,914 Clio models, while Volkswagen Golf accounted for 24,735 units sold. The third place in the ranking is occupied by Peugeot 208, with 20,923 cars sold.
