Samsung closes LCD factories

Samsung closes LCD factories due to lower demand. However, only OLEDs will be produced from now on.

There are many LCD manufacturers, and the technology has already reached its limits. Samsung has been flirting with OLED for years and more recently with microLED. Instead of LCD production, they will focus on OLEDs, so it is very likely that we will see new and cheaper panels.

South Korean factories will now produce OLED panels, and when it will need LCD panels, Samsung can buy from other partners. Samsung invested $ 10.7 billion last year in the development of Quantum Dot technology, so it’s clear where we are heading.

And even if the QLED is still an LCD, they will not be made in house anymore. Samsung has invested in other companies like BOE, TCL or AUO, so they could buy panels from them and they would just change them.
