Facebook Messenger receives native application for Windows and macOS hoping it can replace Zoom for video calls
Facebook has promised a new computer application dedicated to Facebook Messenger since last year, but only now, in the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company considered it was time to officially launch it for everyone.
It has been available in one form or another for some time now, but the latest version comes with the features that many users have been waiting for and will be able to provide an alternative for online collaboration applications such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, which have grown in popularity. popularity in the last period.
The new Facebook Messenger app is very similar in design to the iOS and Android tablet version.
It uses a contact bar on the left and displays the conversations in a large window on the right.
Most of the functions that we would expect from a Facebook Messenger application are found in this one, but it seems that Facebook has not solved all the problems.
While you can view photos or play videos from Facebook directly in the app, it seems that some users cannot open links in the Windows version of the new Facebook Messenger.
Also, the ability to search through keywords or view previously uploaded photos and videos is not yet found in the app.
Facebook prides itself, however, on the fact that the application includes a Dark Mode, which can be configured independently or can emulate the setting in the operating system, while hoping that video calling features will be the main attraction.
Given that Zoom is now facing security issues, this would be a good time for Facebook to gain some ground in this area, especially when everyone already has an account on their social network and probably already knows how to use the functions it offers.
The Facebook Messenger application is available on the Windows Store for Windows 10 and on the App Store for macOS.
