Qualcomm has received US approval and may sell chips to Huawei
Black Friday passed and I forgot some important news. A few days ago, Qualcomm received US approval to sell chips to Huawei. But there is a small problem in this equation.
Basically Huawei is now allowed to use chips from Qualcomm, meaning Snapdragon platforms. However, Huawei can only use 4G Snapdragon platforms. We don’t even know exactly which chips they have access to, but one thing is clear: it doesn’t touch 5G.
Thus, Huawei can use Kirin processors in parallel with Snapdragon ones, but it is possible to see low cost phones with Snapdragon platforms and high end phones with Kirin processors. It makes sense since I don’t have 5G.
The US will probably start giving the Chinese access to pipette technology, and this is the first step.
