What’s next for LG-exit?

To paraphrase a famous saying, LG is dead, but others do not feel better. Especially since there are other examples in this regard. The first big exit on the market was that of the Finns from Nokia. From one of the most profitable brands it came to be passed, like a hot potato, between Microsoft and HMD. And, although they added to the nostalgia of past generations and marketing (let’s not forget that it became a recent Bond-phone), they did not succeed in a revitalization. Moreover, they managed to bury the idea of Android One with phones with huge lag.

Blackberry followed, which relied exclusively on business phones. When they realized that people did not prefer two terminals – one for business and one for personal – and no physical keyboards, they went bankrupt. They were taken over by the Chinese from TCL, and this year they should launch a new 5G terminal, also with a physical keyboard… I don’t think they learned anything from the history of Nokia, but maybe I’m wrong and we’ll see a huge demand for their model !!!

Let’s not forget the Taiwanese who thought they could live for years after the success with HTC One! Although an excellent phone in terms of design and performance, it was only a One Hit Wonder, because line failures followed. Maybe the U series of smartphones may have tried to fix something, but it was already too late! As a result, they sold much of the business to Google, which was to use the know-how for future generations of Pixel. Let’s hope it works out, because, at the moment, I don’t see much innovative phones or big sales for Big G on the mobile market!

In fact, the situation is not new – Kodak, Atari, Netscape, AOL, Yahoo !, Palm or Polaroid are some examples that come to mind now. What do they all have in common? Lack of reaction to the continuous development of the market. In short – they forgot to innovate, although they were leaders in the field at one time… Adaptation to current needs is mandatory. Especially when these needs are in an almost continuous dynamic, as can be seen.

There is also a positive example (this word so hated now!) On the market: Motorola. At the beginning of the millennium, the company had over 150,000 employees, of which only 10% remained after 15 years! From the manufacturer of the first mobile phone, from the RAZR series, a true example of innovative design, Motorola has successively come into the possession of Google and, now, Lenovo. It has only recently resumed its move into the smartphone market, but unlike Nokia, it seems to have done its homework more thoroughly.

In the following period, we have more and more premises to witness other exits from the market, if we take into account the pandemic that affects us and a certain saturation of the smartphone market. Who do you bet will be the next to leave the stage? I’ll start – I think Huawei will have a hard life in the next period… 😉
