Synology Nas DS420J Review
Not everyone is a fan of cloud technology offered by various platforms such as Google, Apple, Dropbox or others.
One option that gives you more control over your data and how you manage and access it is the NAS.
DS420J is one of the newest Network Attached Storage in the Synology range for both data storage and multimedia.
Synology Nas DS420J Specifications:
- Realtek RTD1296 64bit quad core 1.4Ghz processor;
- 1GB RAM;
- maximum supported capacity 64TB;
- number of supported HDDs: 4;
- 1 Gigabit RJ45 10/100/1000 port;
- maximum IP camera licenses: 16 (2 included);
- 2 USB ports.
With a number of 4 bays for HDDs / SSDs, the DS420J is “fat”.
Access to the 4 bays is very easy and you only need a screwdriver to catch the HDDs / SSDs on the rails inside.
Cooling is provided in the back by 2 fans of 80mm each.
In front we have only the power button and LEDs for each of the 4 bays for the storage environment, for the LAN connection, status and power.
With 4 HDDs in it, it weighs somewhere around 5-6kg, and if you are sensitive to sleep you will hear it at night if you sleep in the same room and it is used. RAM cannot be increased.
The proprietary DSM operating system version 6.2.3 intuitive and with clean interface.
It is similar to Android and runs on packages. There is a virtual store where you can download the desired applications depending on the direction in which you will use the NAS.
For example, for data synchronization and sharing we have Synology Drive.
For photo management, the Moments application, which borrows from the interface and the functionalities of Google Photos: it offers the possibility of facial recognition and allows the organization according to various criteria.
For someone who wants their personal cloud always at hand or an easy-to-use and high-performance multimedia center, DS420J is a good solution if you need a large data storage capacity.
They will be safe and always accessible. Supporting up to 64TB, you will certainly not run out of storage space in the years to come. The available software suite ensures flexibility in use and different purposes for which it can be used.
