The Google Podcasts application was launched on iOS. It offers a cross-platform alternative to Apple’s solution.
Podcasts exist and have been popularized by iPods, the old portable music players from Apple, which have even been the basis of the name of this type of content (iPod cast -> podcast).
Over the years, there have been several podcast distribution platforms, but none have managed to surpass the popularity of Apple Podcasts.
However, over the last few years, with the advent of podcasts in the mainstream, platforms like Spotify have started to grow in this segment, and Google is also looking to expand in this area.
Thus, starting today, Google Podcasts is also available on iOS.
Google Podcasts is a relatively new platform, launched less than two years ago. It was initially only available in certain regions, but Google has opened the door to several countries over time.
Incidentally, Google promised a version of the browser and iOS application, besides Android, last year, but it has been delayed.
Now, with the release of an update to the original application, which completely changes the interface, Google Podcasts is also available on iOS.
In a move similar to launching Apple Music on Android, or YouTube Music on iOS, Google expects its users to become comfortable on its services, even if it is likely to change the hardware they access.
The benefits of using Google Podcasts on iOS are clear especially for those who use multiple software platforms.
If you only have an iPhone, but still use a PC, or a Chromebook, or even an Android tablet, Google podcast listening is probably more comfortable, as content stays in sync between devices.
The only alternative to listening to podcasts from Apple Podcasts on your PC is installing iTunes, something many users prefer to do only when they need to (for music transfer, local iOS backup, or full software restoration). .
Besides, Apple Podcasts doesn’t exist on Chrome OS or Android, so you can’t listen to podcasts you’re subscribed to on other devices.
Like all Google applications, Google Podcasts has a flat interface, inspired by the company’s famous Material Design, with an airy look and tabbed sections.
You can download Google Podcasts now from the App Store, on both iPhone and iPad. However, the iPad version is not native, it is just a phone version that can be enlarged to the size of the tablet screen. However, the application works perfectly even in this limited way.
