The “Netflix Tax” went into effect this month

Starting this month, video on demand service providers operating on the Romanian market will have to pay a new fee. In addition to VAT, they will also pay a 4% fee for the proceeds from the sale of content or subscriptions.

The money will go to the National Center of Cinematography, and 40% of the funds will be directed to local film productions.

All streaming services will be affected, except those with revenues of 65,000 euros or an audience of less than 1%. Most likely, this new tax will be found starting next month in the prices of Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video Disney Plus subscriptions.
