The Perseverance rover produced oxygen on Mars
A premiere that we should not overlook. The Perseverance rover produced oxygen on Mars in a demonstration program.
The rover converted carbon dioxide into oxygen and generated 5 grams of oxygen, enough for a normal person to breathe for 10 minutes.
Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment or MOXIE is the technology behind this success, being created by MIT.
This success is an important step because MIT wants to produce more oxygen on Mars to give astronauts a chance to explore the planet, but also to produce fuel to take off from the Red Planet.
